Why is Jesus The Long-awaited Messiah?

What makes Jesus the long-awaited Messiah? And what significance does this hold for those unfamiliar with the Bible?

The Messiah, or Saviour, was prophesied to come and save the people from their sins. This promise was foretold in the Old Testament, giving hope to generations who anticipated the arrival of the one who would bring redemption and deliverance.

Jesus, through His birth, life, death, and resurrection, fulfilled these ancient prophecies, establishing Himself as the true Messiah. His sacrificial act on the cross became the ultimate demonstration of love and salvation. Through His sacrifice, Jesus offers us the incredible gift of forgiveness and reconciliation with God, paving the way for a personal and transformative relationship with our Creator.

These verses all speak of a coming Messiah who will bring peace, salvation, and establish an everlasting kingdom. Jesus fulfilled these prophecies through His birth in Bethlehem, His ministry on Earth, and ultimately, through His death and resurrection.

  • Isaiah 7:14 - "Therefore the Lord himself will give you a sign. Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel."
  • Micah 5:2 - "But you, O Bethlehem Ephrathah, who are too little to be among the clans of Judah, from you shall come forth for me one who is to be ruler in Israel, whose coming forth is from of old, from ancient days."
  • Isaiah 9:6 - "For to us a child is born, to us a son is given; and the government shall be upon his shoulder, and his name shall be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace."
  • Zechariah 9:9 - "Rejoice greatly, O daughter of Zion! Shout aloud, O daughter of Jerusalem! Behold, your king is coming to you; righteous and having salvation is he, humble and mounted on a donkey, on a colt, the foal of a donkey."
  • Isaiah 53:5 "But he was pierced for our transgressions; he was crushed for our iniquities; upon him was the chastisement that brought us peace, and with his wounds we are healed."

As we reflect on the birth of Jesus and His fulfilment of ancient prophecies, let us also remember that He is not just a historical figure, but a living Saviour who continues to impact and transform our lives today. As believers, let us share this message of love and salvation with others during this season of giving. Let us spread God's love by reflecting the character of the person of Jesus, the long-awaited Messiah, in all that we do. Let us also share this message with others who may not be familiar with the Bible, so that they too may experience the hope, joy, and salvation found in Jesus Christ.
